The Communication and Information Studies (CIS) programme will introduce you to an interdisciplinary world in which you will use insights from linguistics, psychology, sociology and management studies to investigate and improve communication products and processes. The degree programme in Communication and Information Studies will tell you all about the steps in such a process: from detecting communication problems and determining a diagnosis to developing and testing solutions. You will first acquire the necessary academic knowledge, which you will subsequently learn to apply.

If you are interested in communication, language, cognition and interpersonal relations, if you want to find out how you make texts, conversations and other communication media understandable, attractive and persuasive for as many people as possible, and if you would like to study which factors play a role in this, then this programme might be right up your street. Students of CIS enjoy taking an analytical approach to communication processes and have good oral and written communication skills.

Whether you study communication in crisis situations or doctor-patient discourse, as a communications consultant you can have great added value in all kinds of communication processes. You may find yourself managing projects and issuing advice to companies or clients, for example on how they can market themselves or their products better. You may train doctors to become better communicators. You may advise organisations on the communication aspects of the digital tools they use.
